Among their many benefits, boats rigged for outboards also afford the boat owner the opportunity to repower their boats when the time comes for an upgrade or performance improvement. This course outlines the steps necessary to repower a boat with a new outboard. Veteran ABYC instructor Rob Berenwick discusses boat engine capacities, engine selection, shaft length and mounting heights. Additional discussions include inspections of the transom, rigging, fuel systems and more. Finally we put it all together with installation considerations, running checks and on-water testing.Topics Include:- Engine Selection
- Capacity
- Trim Adjustments
- Fuel Systems
- Rigging

All too often the fuel system grounding wires have been by-passed, removed, or daisy-chained over the years and such was the case on ABYC's project boat. Watch as ABYC Lead Instructor Mike Bonicker corrects the wiring and explains what and why this is an important procedure.
Fuel System Grounding is not only a critical safety measure, but also required by ABYC and USCG Code of Federal Regulations (for gasoline powered boats). This course takes a close look at the requirements themselves and the proper implementation of the requirements from a service perspective. All too often the grounding wires have been by-passed, removed, or daisy-chained over the years and such was the case on ABYC's project boat. Watch as ABYC Lead Instructor Mike Bonicker corrects the wiring and explains what and why this is an important procedure.
